United States Attorney Reginald Lloyd says a Federal Grand Jury has indicted Lake City Mayor Larue Alford on 1 count of dealing in counterfeit obligations.
You may remember... last week the Florence County Sheriff's Department arrested Alford.
Right now... Alford is out of jail on bond... from charges of obstruction of justice and misconduct in office.
Authorities say Alford willfully used fake money and helped a fugitive escape police.
The Governor's office said last week... if Alford is indicted the Governor will suspend Alford from his position as mayor.
Joel Sawyer with the Governor Sanford's Office says they are waiting on a "certified copy" of the indictment.. and that usually takes a day or two.
When that happens the Governor's legal advisors have advised Sanford to remove Alford from office.
