Hope and the American Soldier

"...there is no reason, Bob, that young American soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis in the dead of night,terrorizing kids and children, you know, women, breaking sort of the customs of the--of--the historical customs,religious customs. Senator John Kerry, December 4, 2005.

I would venture to say there are many reasons young American Soldiers need to be going into the homes of Iraqis...the least of which is hope.

Gift of the Magi

Financial strains have been great in the humble home this year. It seems that with every unexpected expense, there has been another, even greater unexpected expense.

Christmas was a dreaded time for me. I was certain I could not possibly deliver the desired gifts.

Fate intervened. A kind one fulfilled a responsibility. Another kind one purchased THE ONE WANTED item, delaying repayment. Perceptive family members gave cash instead of gifts.

And so, repayment for THE ONE WANTED item was made possible sooner than planned and all of the gifts wanted were under the tree Christmas morning.

There was one gift under the tree that was not expected. Perhaps it was the most important gift of all.

A beautiful heart carved from sapphire, adorned by diamonds, and displayed on a chain of white gold was there for me, and it was purchased by The Kid with the monetary gifts she received.

My Gift of the Magi.

Why We Love Christmas Parades

Christmas Parades are the best parades,

not because of the farm animals,

the domestic animals,

the big boys with little toys,

the divas,

or the favorite literary characters;

not because of the humorous,

or the unexpected;

not because of the cowboys,

or the beauty queens,

but because of the little ones...(just look at that little boy's grin!)
