Monday Mutt Shot: Dead Dood Posted by Hello

Sunday, April 24, 2005

Time has taken advantage of me. I suppose I took the prediction of Punxsutawney Phil far too seriously, for the signs of Spring were abundant before I recognized the change of seasons.

More often than not of late I’ve found myself reminiscing the warm, humid mornings and long, sultry evenings of last Summer spent with Murray.

The kid was with friends Saturday, and I was consumed with the memories of Murray.

I could think of no better time to renew our relationship. After all, we’d have no interruptions.

Murray’s reluctance was painfully evident, but even after months of neglect, it only took a few tugs of the string of Murray’s heart before he revved to life with a vim and vigor that left me breathless.

ig·no·rance The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed.

A proposed bill to make cockfighting a felony passed through the House Judiciary Committee, the initial step to make a bill a law.

A proposed bill making Criminal Domestic Violence a felony was tabled, or set aside to be considered at a later date.

Representative John Graham Altman, III, a member of the Judiciary Committee

stated in an interview by Kara Gormley of WIS-TV, "People who compare the two are not very smart and if you don't understand the difference, Ms. Gormley, between trying to ban the savage practice of watching chickens trying to kill each other and protecting people rights in CDV statutes, I'll never be able to explain it to you in a 100 years ma'am."

During the interview, the elected official and practicing attorney furthered his verbal attack on the reporter.

"You're really not very bright and I realize you are not accustomed to this, but I'm accustomed to reporters having a better sense of depth of things and you're asking this question to me would indicate you can't understand the answer. To ask the question is to demonstrate an enormous amount of ignorance. I'm not trying to be rude or hostile, I'm telling you."

He continues by sharing his opinion of women, more particularly women who are victims of Criminal Domestic Violence.

"There ought not to be a second offense. The woman ought to not be around the man. I mean you women want it one way and not another. Women want to punish the men, and I do not understand why women continue to go back around men who abuse them. And I've asked women that and they all tell me the same answer, John Graham you don't understand. And I say you're right, I don't understand."

Married three times and divorced twice, Representative Altman has been jailed in the past for failure to pay child support and may not only be uneducated, unaware of uninformed of the dynamics of Criminal Domestic Violence, he may also be a tad biased towards women.

But for the expertise of these pilots, many lives may have been lost.

SHAW AIR FORCE BASE — Family and friends were scheduled to gather at Shaw Air Force Base late Sunday night to say goodbye to the 130 airmen who were to be deployed to the Persian Gulf region in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Prayers, Crimes and Victims

There are those who commit horrible acts for reasons inconceivable, and though my heart breaks for the innocent victims of such crimes, my mind often questions the obvious, yet ignored warning signs that seemingly flashed before many of those victims.

One of the alleged victims of Stephen Stanko, an obviously educated woman, invited a man recently released from prison (after having been convicted of the crimes of Kidnapping, Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Obtaining Goods in False Pretenses, and Breach of Trust With Fraudulent Intention) to reside in the home she shared with her child.

As I pray for comfort for the friends, family and associates of those believed to be victims of all criminal acts, I also pray for understanding and acceptance without judgment. Most of all, I pray for the children who have no control over the circumstances in which they are placed.

My Little Girl

Posted by Hello
Oh, what a beautiful young lady my little girl is becoming!

I wish, more than anything, I had a magic mirror that would allow her see past the glasses, orthodontics, and minor blemishes that prepubescence leads her to believe fatal flaws.

Sadly, these are lessons of life that must be learned by each of us, in our own time, and I am left to offer only love, support, and guidance.

I was there. I remember. I confess.

Refer to the above picture, scanned from a high school annual, for evidence while linking below.

Alas, the angle of the picture results in omission of one rat, imagine my surprise while reviewing pictures the kid took at a local pageant tonight when...

Brief, Yet Cherished Reunion

A Mama's Reward

For Cheryl, a burden has been lifted now that her son is at her side. She said, "It's like you've got all this weight on you and it's hanging on your neck and it goes away."

Relief first felt when the family picked Brandon up from the airport Sunday.

Cheryl said, "When it was getting close for his plane to come, everybody was gathering and I'm like if any of you touch him before I do, I'll kill you."

She added, "When I first got to him, it's like I couldn't let go and we actually walked through the airport holding hands."

While he's only here for a short visit, Brandon is thankful, he can look into his mother's eyes. "I know there's a wonderful woman who loves me and cares about me a lot."

Brandon will return to Iraq within two weeks. He says his unit may be home by the summer.

May they reap the benefits of the time they have to share now.
